Evesham Abbey Bell Tower
by George Demidowicz
Thursday 24th September 2015
George Demidowicz delivered a fascinating talk on”Evesham Bell Tower: new work on its architecture and history”. George and Toni are the authors of the recently-published new history of the Bell Tower. This talk was held, as usual, at the Friends’ Meeting House at 7:30pm.
The Bell Tower is the, ah, pinnacle of a series of developments to enhance and improve the lay precinct of Evesham Abbey. Under the guidance of Clement Lichfield (prior and later abbot) a new west porch and chapel were added to All Saints, a new porch and east end to St Lawrence, and the Bell Tower. His work on the Abbey Church was sadly lost at the Dissolution. A fascinating talk about Evesham’s iconic landmark.
